A new Dungeons & Dragons video game is currently in the works, according to a recent report from Variety. The game is being developed by Giant Skull, a studio co-founded two years ago by noted designer Stig Asmussen; who had previously served as a game director on the popular God of War and Star Wars Jedi series.
The untitled D&D video game is one of many new projects that has been announced over the past year, as Wizards of the Coast seeks to capitalize on the success of the Baldur’s Gate 3 video game by working on several major titles in-house and licensing out the D&D brand to a number of major video game studios.
So just what is the new Giant Skull D&D game going to be about? Below, we break out everything we know so far.

What is the upcoming Giant Skull D&D video game about?
So far we know only a little about what the game consists of. According to the Variety article it will be single-player action-adventure set within the D&D universe. In a recently published Hasbro press release Wizards of the Coast’s President of Digital Gaming John Hight notes that: “Worldbuilding and storytelling is in our DNA, and this collaboration reflects our evolution and commitment to our ‘Playing to Win’ strategy, building a stronger presence in digital play. We look forward to revealing more about this brand-new ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ game in the future.”
Giant Skull co-founder Stig Asmussen also wrote that “Our talented and experienced team at Giant Skull is built on creativity and curiosity… Our goal is to craft a rich new ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ universe filled with immersive storytelling, heroic combat and exhilarating traversal that players will fully embrace.”
Notably both Hight and Asmussen previously worked together at Sony Studios on the popular God of War series.

Who is Giant Skull?
Giant Skull is a triple-A video game studio that was co-founded in 2023 by Stig Asmussen, who has previously served as the game director of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for Respawn Entertainment and EA. Asmussen had also previously worked as the game director on God of War III at Sony Santa Monica. In addition to Asmussen, the Giant Skull leadership team also features a number of major video game veterans, including lead producer Lauren McLemore, art director Patrick Murphy, CTO Jon Carr and design director Jeff Magers.
The new Dungeons & Dragons video game will be first official title launched by Giant Skull.

What other D&D Video Games Are in the Works?
Currently, there are a number of D&D video game projects in various stages of development, including:
- Untitled D&D surival sim: In development from Gameloft Montreal, the studio best known for the popular Disney Dreamlight Valley, this new D&D title will be an action-focused survival-life sim set in the Forgotten Realms.
- Project Baxter: In development from Starbreeze Entertainment, who is best known for their shooter Payday 3, little has been revealed about this upcoming D&D game (code named “Project Baxter”) other than that it is a co-operative multiplayer game and slated for release in 2026 for consoles and PC.
- Baldur’s Gate 4: Larian Studios has confirmed that they will not be working on a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3. Hasbro, however, is unlikely to let the lucrative franchise die and chances are good we’ll see a Baldur’s Gate 4 in the future from another developer.
- Untitled Hasbro Game: Wizards of the Coast has also indicated that an in-house studio at Hasbro is currently developing a currently unnamed D&D game, although little information has been revealed about what it will consist of.
- Untitled Saber Interactive game: The developers of the popular Space Marine 2 video game are also working on a new Hasbro title that may be D&D related.
- Battlemarked: is an upcoming co-op virtual reality RPG game set in the world of D&D. The game is built using the Demeo Action Role Playing System, which involves tactical turn-based combat for up to four players.

Final Thoughts
Wizards of the Coast seems determined to get as many new D&D video game projects off the ground as possible, with Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks recently announcing in an investors call that we can likely expect to see one to two games released each year.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on this story in the days ahead and will update this page with more information as it’s made available.
